Connect Meta Ads to Adswave

How the Meta connection works: the ads_read permission only, the popup and redirect flows, Business Manager access, reconnecting and revoking in Business Integrations.

Adswave reads Meta Ads through the Marketing API, signed in with your Facebook login. Unlike Google, Meta has a separate read permission, and that is the only one Adswave requests.

What Meta asks you to grant

Adswave requests ads_read. It never requests ads_management, the permission that allows an app to create, edit or pause campaigns. Meta reviewed Adswave's use of ads_read before granting it.

If a consent dialog ever asks you to grant Adswave ads_management, do not approve it and tell us: it would mean something has changed that should not have.

Which login to use

Use the Facebook login that has access, through Business Manager, to the ad accounts you want in Adswave. Each organisation has one Meta connection, so every ad account must be readable by that one login. Adswave lists the ad accounts it can read; you then link each one to the right client.

Plan limits set how many Meta accounts each client can have linked: one on Basic, two on Standard, three on Pro.

Steps

  1. Open Connections and choose Connect for Meta Ads. Only owners and admins can connect or disconnect.
  2. A popup opens for the Facebook login. If your browser blocks popups, Adswave falls back to a full-page redirect; allow popups for a smoother flow.
  3. Approve the ads_read request and wait for the status to show connected.
  4. Link the ad accounts to their clients on the Clients page.

Reconnecting

Meta tokens expire. When one will expire within 15 days, the organisation's owners and admins get an email, at most once a day. Once it needs re-authorising, the dashboard shows a reconnect dialog. Repeat the connect step and the linked accounts resume without further setup.

Revoking access

Disconnecting in Adswave destroys the stored token, so Adswave can no longer read your accounts. It does not revoke the grant on Meta's side. To withdraw it there too, remove Adswave in Meta Business Settings under Business Integrations.

What Adswave stores

The token lives in Google Cloud Secret Manager. There is no table of spend or performance data: figures are fetched from Meta when a view needs them and cached in memory for up to 30 minutes. The values recorded when an alert fires are kept. See the security page.

Troubleshooting

  • The popup closes and nothing happens. The browser blocked the popup after it opened. Allow popups for Adswave, or retry and use the redirect fallback.
  • An ad account is missing. The Facebook login used does not have access to it in Business Manager. Ask the Business Manager admin to grant access, then reconnect.
  • The reconnect dialog keeps returning. The token was revoked on Meta's side, usually because the user's role in Business Manager changed. Reconnect with a login that still has access.
